The swimming pool at this historic beach club was built in the 1920s, survived the 1938 Hurricane, and has been the focus of family life at the club for generations of members. When it became clear, that after 100 years in service, the pool had long outlived its useful life, it was a jarring change for the members.
Working with the members’ committee, we evaluated the options for repair and upgrade, and ran a forensic investigation of the existing pool shell, which made clear that after 100 years in service, it was time for a new pool.
The goal was to maintain the historic look and feel of of the club while completely replacing the old 5,000 square foot pool with a new-state of the art one, along with 12,000 square feet of pool deck, and a new covered dining area. Working with a specialized pool engineer and architect, we developed the plans, ran the bid process, and oversaw the construction in one off-season, right in the middle of the historic wood club buildings. Membership was and is delighted with the outcome.
While everyone else was crying the blues over supply chain woes in 2021-2022, we got it built between September and May, ready for the summer season. And on budget. A complex project pulled off elegantly. And a new pool that will be the focus of family life for generations of members to come.
